Textile designers Amanda Haupt and Lisa Butler are inspired by colour, nature, people and the ever changing social dynamic of South Africa.
The design duo combine traditional textile elements with local iconography to create fabrics that are used by decorators, interior designers, architects and furniture designers. Amanda and Lisa aim to share a bright and positive narrative with people through their home ware retail range.
The Design Team's feel-good designs are printed onto fabrics by hand using flatbed screen printing techniques. The team has mastered the art of producing large quantities of product without compromising the authenticity of the hand printing process.
Peppertree (the mother company of Design Team) strives to be a company that is mindful, not only in the way they design their products but also in the way they choose to manufacture them.
Five years ago, Peppertree started an initiative together with Juleiga Classen, setting up a cooperative, empowering disenfranchised individuals in the Mitchells Plain suburb of Cape Town. Through continuous mentorship, skills development and continued support, this group of previously unemployed individuals have grown their team and is now able to support their families with income earned from this initiative.
